Google has Declared War on Amazon – Again

Yesterday, Dr. Pete Meyers noticed yet another way Google is looking to keep searchers in their own realm and away from the businesses, like Amazon, that they serve:

For select titles, Google is now testing ways for searchers to read previews of books that they may be looking for. In Dr. Pete’s example, he searched for Death of a Salesman and was offered the chance to buy it directly from Google Play, not even needing to go to an online book seller such as Amazon.

While this may be a new way Google is targeting competitors like Amazon this isn’t the first tactic Google is using to keep searchers in their domain for longer periods of time. Recently, Google has also launched capabilities to schedule home repair services, secure restaurant reservations and much more; all in the name of turning themselves into a one-stop-shop for users.

It will be interesting to see whether or not this new plan will work for Google as Amazon has successfully controlled the online shopping scene for some time now, even after previous Google attempts to keep buyers away.
