If you’ve been struggling to find the time to get all of your work done this week, you may be in luck. Facebook has just launched their new artificial intelligence powered virtual assistant to help you organize everything from conference calls to your son’s sleep over.
According to David Marcus, Vice-President of Messaging Products at Facebook, the new M service can book restaurants, make travel arrangements and much more. If you’re worried about M not stacking up to a real life assistant you can rest assured – Facebook plans to keep human contractors on hand to monitor complex requests until M has enough data to accurately fulfill most types of requests.
It seems that this move by Facebook has sparked a new war among tech giants like Microsoft, Apple and Google who already have their own assistants built into their operating systems and devices; sort of like the browser wars that ensued from the late 90s and well into the 2000s.
Currently, the M service is only available to a select group of users in the Bay area where Facebook is headquartered. Only time will tell how valuable Facebook’s virtual assistant technology will be, and which tech conglomerate will reign supreme in the ASST-War.
